SAT in Qatar 2026–27 — Test Centers, Dates, Fees, and Which Universities Require It | اختبار SAT في قطر
In two lines: The digital SAT is offered in Doha on the same global dates (next: November 7 and December 5, 2026; then March 6, May 1 and June 5, 2027), costs US$111 for international test-takers (about QAR 405), and in Qatar it matters most for Education City applicants — Carnegie Mellon Qatar requires it for AI and Computer Science — and for Qatar University math placement. Most other Qatar universities treat it as optional or do not use it.

Do you actually need the SAT in Qatar?
| Your plan | SAT status | What to do instead / as well |
|---|---|---|
| Carnegie Mellon Qatar — AI or Computer Science | Required (Fall 2027 cycle) | Submit all scores by the deadline; SAT code 4246 |
| Carnegie Mellon Qatar — Biology, Business, Information Systems | “Test flexible” | SAT/ACT, or predicted IB / French Bac / British (4+ AS or 3+ A-Level), or 3+ AP results |
| Qatar University | Used for math placement | 570+ exempts you from placement math; 530–569 → Pre-Calculus; below 530 → Elementary Algebra |
| Other Education City campuses (Georgetown, Northwestern, HBKU) | Policies change by year | Check each campus’s current admissions page before you register — do not rely on last year’s rule |
| US universities from Qatar | Many have reinstated test requirements since 2024 | Check each target university; a good score rarely hurts an international file |
| UK / Canada / Europe | Usually not needed | Your curriculum results and English test matter more |

Test centers in Qatar
The SAT is a center-based digital test in Qatar — you cannot take it at home. Centers are mostly international schools in Doha plus the Qatar University Testing Center. Seats at popular Doha centers fill before the registration deadline on autumn dates, so register early rather than waiting for the deadline.
The only reliable list of centers for a given date is the College Board’s own search at registration (it shows seat availability live). Registration and payment are online only, by credit card, through your College Board account.
2026–27 test dates (same worldwide)
| Test date | Registration deadline |
|---|---|
| 7 November 2026 | 23 October 2026 |
| 5 December 2026 | 20 November 2026 |
| 6 March 2027 | 19 February 2027 |
| 1 May 2027 | 16 April 2027 |
| 5 June 2027 | 21 May 2027 |
Scores are released about two weeks after the test. For an Education City deadline in early January, the December sitting is the last safe one; for US regular decision, December is usually the last date accepted.
Fees
Registration US$68 + international fee US$43 = US$111 (≈ QAR 405). Late registration, center changes and extra score reports cost more. Scores are valid for five years.
What the digital SAT looks like
Two sections, four modules, 98 questions, 134 minutes: Reading & Writing (2 × 27 questions, 32 minutes each) and Math (2 × 22 questions, 35 minutes each, calculator allowed throughout). The second module of each section adapts to how you did in the first — so the first module sets your ceiling. There is no essay, no subject tests, and no penalty for wrong answers.
Preparing from Qatar: a realistic plan
- Take one full official practice test first (College Board’s Bluebook app, free). Your starting score decides everything below.
- Under 1200 and you need 1350+: 10–12 weeks, 5–6 hours a week. Most of the gap is usually Math content, not strategy.
- 1250–1350 aiming for 1450+: 6–8 weeks focused on your two weakest question types; a second practice test at week 3.
- Already 1450+: you likely do not need a course. Two more practice tests and timing drills are enough.
- Students from the Qatar national curriculum or Arabic-medium schools usually lose most points on Reading & Writing vocabulary-in-context and on word problems — plan reading time, not just math drills.
When you do not need a course
- Your target universities are test-optional and your grades are strong — spend the time on your application instead.
- You are above 1450 on an official practice test.
- You only need Qatar University math placement: a focused 3–4 week math review is usually enough to cross 570.

Not as a general admission requirement on the Testing Center page — it is used for math placement (570+ exempts you). Individual colleges may have their own rules; check your college’s page.
Does Carnegie Mellon Qatar require the SAT?
Yes for Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. For Biological Sciences, Business Administration and Information Systems it is “test flexible”: you can substitute predicted IB/French Bac/British results or three AP exams.
How much does the SAT cost in Qatar?
US$111 (US$68 registration + US$43 international fee), roughly QAR 405, before any late or change fees.
Can I take the SAT at home in Qatar?
No. The digital SAT is taken at an authorized test center on the official dates.
Which SAT date should I take for Education City?
Aim for October or November of your final year, keeping December as a retake. Later dates may miss early-January deadlines.
